“You can’t sit around and wait for somebody to say who you are. You need to write it and paint it and do it”. – Faith Ringgold.
Artist, feminist, activist, and educator, Faith Ringgold challenged and questioned perceptions of African American identity and gender inequality for almost seven decades.
The scenography of the Dior haute couture autumn-winter 2024-2025 show features paintings from some of her most emblematic series: Freedom Woman Now and Woman Free Yourself (Political Posters), Windows of the Wedding #1: Woman, as well as recreations of her Civic Center L.A. Subway Commission that are a tribute to the upcoming Olympic and Paralympic Games Paris 2024.
At the heart of the inventive dialogue between Maria Grazia Chiuri and Faith Ringgold is the fundamental theme of female empowerment.
*Initiated in 2022, on the occasion of the retrospective exhibition at the New Museum in New York, where the Creative Director discovered the works of this iconic figure more thoroughly.
